- PETS: If you or a loved one are concerned about deportation, there are steps you can take to
make sure your pets are cared for. Whether they will need temporary placement, a new
home, or papers for travel, planning now can ensure their care will be a less
stressful part of an extremely difficult time. Some tips:- Know your rights.
- Designate a caregiver. Discuss specific details like how long they can help and
how expenses will be covered. - Prepare a digital or physical pet folder: Include a recent photo, age, breed, medical records,
microchip and vet info, and a care schedule including diet, medical, and behavioral
needs. - Update microchip information: Include your caregiver’s information in case you
cannot be reached. - Inform household members: Display information about your pets and their
caregiver prominently, like on the fridge. - Explore rehoming options: Seek assistance from friends, family, local rescue
groups, and online rehoming platforms for support.
