Erica Newton

Erica Newton

Director of Domus Knights

Erica has worked for Domus since 2007 in a variety of roles, including as the director of a residential program, as a transitional apartment living case manager, as a street outreach program team member, and as director of an elementary school after-school program. She has also served on Domus’ Sanctuary Committee to create and sustain a trauma-responsive organizational culture. Erica graduated from Norfolk State University, where she was Miss 2003 Norfolk State University Student Ambassador and an intern at the AFL-CIO in Chicago. Erica has a certificate in motivational interviewing and was a 2016 Leadership Roundtable participant. “What has kept me at Domus for 18 years is that I get to meet young people and families where they are and help shape their future. Domus is a family-oriented organization that truly cares about the young people, families, and staff we serve.” Erica enjoys traveling, watching football, cooking, spending time with her family, and collecting shoes. She also volunteers for local political campaigns and one day hopes to represent her community as an elected official.

Evie joined Domus in 2021 as a family advocate. Originally from Naugatuck, Connecticut, she has lived in Stamford since 2019. “I love Domus’s mission and the variety of programs we offer young people. The students I work with and interact with daily make my job worth it. There are definitely hard days that can really test your patience, but I love getting to watch students grow and exposing them to new opportunities.” Evie is an avid learner who enjoys attending conferences; she’s also a devoted nonfiction reader. Evie holds a master’s degree from NYU and hopes to achieve her PhD. She was also part of the 9th cohort of the Tow Youth Justice Institute’s Transforming Youth Justice program. Evie loves to travel: Some of her favorite places she’s visited include Mexico, Japan, and Italy.

Margaret started working at Domus in 2012. Over the years, she has held a variety of roles, including intern/assistant, camp counselor, after-school counselor, office assistant admin, ELL paraeducator, and youth development staff member. Raised primarily in both the Bronx and Stamford after emigrating from the Dominican Republic, Margaret has long been rooted in the community she now supports. “What keeps me here is making a difference and sharing my love and passion with students and the community. I value being able to share my ideas and thoughts while continuing to learn and grow.” Her commitment to youth development and creativity are evident in her work every day. Outside of Domus, Margaret enjoys painting, drawing, and traveling.

Jenn joined Domus in 2024 as a family advocate. Born and raised in Stamford, she still calls the city home. “I grew up in Domus, attending the schools and summer camp as a student, and it made such an impact on me that I wanted to give back in the same way.” As a former Domus student, Jenn brings both personal experience and cultural insights to her work with students and families. She’s passionate about building strong relationships and helping young people feel seen, supported, and empowered. Jenn is also a proud dog mom to a pitbull named Yeezy.

Kashawn joined Domus in 2024 as a family advocate. Originally from Stamford, he was working at Stamford High as a substitute teacher when he discovered how much he enjoyed connecting with students. “I realized how much I enjoyed working with the students. I wanted to have a greater impact and be more involved in their growth, so when the opportunity came up, I was excited to take on a more active role.” Kashawn is passionate about supporting young people and creating meaningful relationships that help them thrive. In his free time, he enjoys gaming and collects video games.

Jewel joined Domus in 2024 as a family advocate. “What has kept me working at Domus is the genuine care and support leaders show for their employees. I’ve never experienced working for an organization that takes such great care of its team. Especially for me—coming in new and going through many transitions—Domus has provided love, support, and met my needs through effective communication.” Jewel believes in the power of authentic relationships. Outside of work, she enjoys videography and photography, using her creativity to capture meaningful moments.

Lakuasia returned to Domus in 2024 as a family advocate, having previously worked as a summer camp counselor. “I worked for Domus before and loved how the organization was run. They truly care about you—not just as an employee, but as a person. From the support to the relationships built, I always felt seen, heard, and valued. That’s what made me want to come back.” Born and raised in Stamford, Lakuasia is excited to give back to the community she’s always called home. She’s passionate about supporting students and helping them grow. Outside of work, Lakuasia enjoys shopping and staying up to date with the latest trends.

Bryan joined Domus in 2020 as a family advocate. Born and raised in Stamford, he still lives in the community he serves. “The fact that we can help students become better people and hopefully make this world a better place is what drives me,” says Bryan. He’s committed to building strong, supportive relationships with young people and helping them grow into their full potential. Bryan believes that positive guidance and consistency can make a lasting impact on the lives of young people. Outside of work, he enjoys staying active and loves to sightsee whenever he gets the chance.
