The Lion’s Den is an after-school program operating during the school year and the summer providing academic, recreational, and social activities to the middle school students at Trailblazers Academy. We provide a safe and structured environment where students can learn and challenge themselves socially, emotionally, and academically. We believe all students should have access to an after-school program.

At the Lion’s Den, children develop skills that allow them to be better people and students. Our goal is to improve literacy levels, improve academic skills through homework support, and build social-emotional skills through enrichment activities; one key activity that helps us reach this goal is individualized instruction utilizing the nationally recognized literacy program KidzLit. Students take advantage of academic enrichment, group recreational activities such as team sports, life skills instruction, career exploration, and more.

Students who participate in Lion’s Den programming attend Trailblazers Academy during the school day. These students have been unsuccessful at traditional public schools. Many of the students struggle academically; others struggle behaviorally. Participation in the after-school program is a privilege: A student may participate only if they have attended all of the day’s classes and his/her behavior warrants participation.
