  • Chester Addison is ALWAYS in need of the following items!  Can you help?
Young people come to Domus House and Passages with very little, so it’s important to welcome them with a Newcomer Kit. When they’re ready for independent living, we help them get started with an Independent Living Start-Up Kit.

Chester Addison Community Center Needs Your Help!

Domus is fortunate to have a music production program at both the Chester Addison Community Center and the Lion's Den. We need a mixer for each site. We estimate just under $1,500 would help us secure this items. Can you help? Email Garland or call 324-4277 x23.

Help us raise $10,000 to buy 4 AEDs for Trailblazers Academy, Stamford Academy, Domus House, and Passages to potentially save lives!

Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are portable electronic devices that automatically diagnose potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias and treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia and allows the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm. Some states mandate the presence of AEDs in all public high schools after a recent rise in student cardiac arrests.

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the only definitive treatment for sudden cardiac arrest is an electrical pulse that restores normal heart rhythm. To be effective, however, the treatment must be administered within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, often well before emergency medical services can respond. The AHA estimates that widespread deployment of AEDs in businesses could save 100,000 lives annually in the US alone. And OSHA personnel state, “Administered within three minutes, the electric shock (defibrillation) restores the normal rhythm to the victim's heart and can increase survival rates from less than 5 percent to nearly 75 percent. Immediate defibrillation can revive more than 90 percent of victims."

We’ve had people collapse at our program sites in the past; with an AED on-site, we can ensure that staff members, youth, and visitors can survive a sudden cardiac arrest event. Thank you!

Can you help purchase science books for beginning readers? These three different series are informational and not embarrassing to our struggling students. Non-fiction is highly motivating to our 6th students who enter our school reading at a 1st and 2nd grade level. Students can read these books one-on-one with Trailblazers Academy literacy specialists to build vocabulary and background knowledge as well as use them with grade-level writing assignments and with our Readers’ Workshop Program. Email Alison to place your donation that will go directly to this literary cause. Thank you!

We need 15 gently used bikes for middle schoolers aged 12 to 14 for the Lion’s Den Out-of-School-Time Program’s Healthy Living Initiative. Having bikes will allow a small group of kids to ride to local parks and other venues, solving a transportation issue and providing some exercise in the process.
We have donors asking us for a list of books & DVD that would benefit our kids.

Here's the list!
Steel drums for use in literacy development: Many of our Trailblazers Academy students come from Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and other Caribbean islands where the steel drum is popular, and helping them express themselves on an instrument they love that connects them with their heritage would be an added bonus. Contact Jamie at by email if you can help!
